The CESAR1 solvent, a cornerstone of the project\u2019s research into carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies, emerged as a \u201chot topic\u201d at the event. It was not only a focus of the AURORA presentations but also featured prominently in other talks and numerous discussions over coffee, lunch, and dinner. Despite of its relative popularity in the solvent market, there are still many knowledge gaps connected to the stability of CESAR1.<\/p>\n<p>The<strong> mixture of 2-amino-2-methyl propanol<\/strong> (AMP, CAS 124-68-5) <strong>and piperazine<\/strong> (PZ, CAS<br \/>110-85-0) <strong>is known to be much more stable than ethanolamine<\/strong> (MEA, CAS 141-43-5), both under oxidising<br \/>conditions, thermal stress, and at the cyclic conditions in the CO2 capture plant.<\/p>\n<p>Despite of solvent degradation being low compared to other solvents,<strong> degradation phenomena need to be fully understood before a solvent can be safely <\/strong><strong>implemented for large or full-scale CO2 capture from industrial sources<\/strong>, to fully comprehend potential environmental and operational impacts, and ensure safety for operators and neighbours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In this work, our project partners, <a href=\"\/?page_id=89\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SINTEF, NTNU and TCM<\/a>, aim to fully elucidate the degradation (oxidative and thermal) patterns of CESAR1 at industry relevant conditions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/aurora-heu.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/GHGT-17-CESAR1-degradation.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read more&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title=&#8221;Presentation &#8211; Storage potential evaluation of eastern Mediterranean area as final step of the full chain assessment&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.3&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; body_font_size=&#8221;14px&#8221; body_line_height=&#8221;1.5em&#8221; width=&#8221;100%&#8221; link_option_url_new_window=&#8221;on&#8221; box_shadow_style=&#8221;preset1&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>The last step of the CCUS full chain is represented by geological storage<\/strong>, when the CO2 is injected, via injection wells, into the<br \/>deep sub-surface at a carefully selected site (such as a saline aquifer or a depleted oil\/gas field).<\/p>\n<p><strong>This work led by our project partner <a href=\"\/?page_id=89\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sapienza Univerity of Rome<\/a>, describes the methodology and the results adopted by the AURORA project to select suitable storage sites for the CO2 source plants of the project, located in the Mediterranean area.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The selection will be based on a comprehensive set of criteria that has been extensively described in numerous publications, tested in various projects, and adopted by the CO2 storage atlas of several European countries (as Norway and UK).
