We are excited to announce that the six-month CESAR1 pilot campaign has officially begun at SINTEF’s Tiller CO2LAB. Starting in the last week of August, this comprehensive campaign will play a crucial role in advancing carbon capture technology. The goal is to conduct 115 tests on the CESAR1 solvent and related process technology.
Key Objectives of the CESAR1 Pilot Campaign:
The campaign aims to thoroughly evaluate various process parameters critical to enhancing the performance and sustainability of carbon capture solutions. The key focus areas of the tests include:
- Dynamic Operations: Examining how CESAR1 solvent performs under varying operational conditions is vital for real-world CCS applications.
- Solvent Emission Reduction: Investigating strategies to minimize solvent emissions during the carbon capture process is essential for environmental compliance and operational efficiency.
- CO2 Compression and Liquefaction: Analyzing the quality of the CO2 captured by the process to identify impurities that might create health or safety issues during transport, storage or utilization.
SINTEF’s innovative CO2LAB is ideal for testing cutting-edge carbon capture technologies. By the conclusion of this pilot campaign, the research team will gather comprehensive data and insights to help refine the CESAR1 solvent and its associated process technology. These findings will significantly contribute to the global effort to combat climate change by making carbon capture more efficient, reliable, and sustainable.
Next Steps:
The campaign is set to wrap up in the first half of 2025, with SINTEF scheduled to report the results in Q2 2025. These results will provide valuable feedback for both academic and industrial stakeholders, offering a path forward for more effective deployment of CCS solutions in a variety of industries.
Stay tuned for updates as SINTEF continues to push the boundaries of carbon capture technology with this groundbreaking pilot campaign!
